Five Ministries Shifted To Provinces Under 18th Amendment: Rabbani

Advisor to the Prime Minister Mian Raza Rabbani on Friday answering the questions in Senate, has informed the House that under 18th constitutional amendment five Ministries have been shifted to the Provinces and all the procedures regarding shifting of their staff and assets to the provinces would be completed by 30th of June this year.

He said in the first phase development projects of five Ministries have been transferred to the provinces from the federal government which include Local Government, Special Initiatives, Youth, Zakat and Usher and Population Welfare.

Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar informed the House that at present there are over three million tax payers in the country however the government is committed to enhance this number and increase it up to the thirty per cent of the population to give a boost to revenue collection.

To another question she said the federal government provided a net subsidy of over 146 billion rupees to WAPDA and PEPCO during the last financial year.

The Minister said the government has borrowed 284 billion rupees from State Bank and other local banks during the current financial year however it is government’s endeavour to bring down the local borrowing by enhancing external finances.

The Senate began its 67th session at the Parliament House Islamabad this morning with Chairman Farooq H. Naek in the Chair.

The Chairman announced a panel of presiding officers for the current session, which include Islamuddin Sheikh, Afrasayab Khattak and Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi
