Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah Khan has said that two
cases have been registered with the Lytton Road police
station against the American Consulate officials involved in
the Mozang firing case.
He said that a police team headed by SSP Investigation had
been constituted to probe the matter and the Punjab
government would not succumb to any local or foreign
pressure. Addressing a press conference at the Public
Relations Department, Punjab here on Friday, Rana said that
Raymond Davis had been arrested, while a letter has also
been written to the Foreign Ministry regarding the custody
of the consulate officer’s vehicle.
Public Relations director general Dr. Muhammad Aslam Dogar,
Director News Zameer Athar, Incharge Press Information Javed
Younis and Incharge Electronic Media Abid Noor Bhatti were
also present.
Rana Sana said that a case under section 302 of PPC had been
registered against the main accused Raymond Davis at Police
Station Lytton Road. (Case No.47/11). Similarly, a case had
also been registered against him for illegal possession of
arms (Case No.13/20/65).
He said that a case under section 302/34/427 of PPC had also
been registered against the persons whose vehicle ran over a
citizen. He said that the incident of firing was of highly
sensitive nature and it would be premature to say anything
before the completion of inquiry. He said that the accused
would not be given any VIP protocol.
Sana said the court had given six days physical remand of
Raymond Davis after which he would be sent to the jail. He
said that the movement of American nationals without
intimating the authorities concerned was a violation of
diplomatic norms. He said that no foreign national had the
right to take life of others.
To a question, the minister said that the Punjab government
had also registered its protest before the federal
government in the past against the movement of diplomats
unnecessarily. He expressed condolence with the families of
Faizan Haider and Faheem, who were killed in a firing, and
Muhammad Ubaid-ur-Rehman who was crushed to death by the
Land Cruiser. On behalf of the chief minister, he assured
the families of the victims that they would get justice. |
